The happiness of achieving

We feel happier achieving a goal that is for intrinsic purposes rather than for extrinsic purposes.

Meaning?

A goal for extrinsic purposes would involve a desire for fame, prestige, or money.

A goal for intrinsic purposes would involve pursuing something because you like the idea or simply want it to exist. This goal would be like striving for something simply because you appreciate it or find it fulfilling.

Extrinsic desire sets our expectations really high, as we envision the glory and joy of winning something for the prestige or attention. In my experience, it never feels as fulfilling as pursuing something from within…

“From within” is how I learned about the idea of “intrinsic value” - and it’s a really beautiful thing.
